Case study Sky News Arabia

To meet the demands of their 24/7 news cycle, Sky News Arabia required a robust studio server capable of delivering UHD key and fill within a newly constructed SMPTE 2110 environment. Explore how clipbox helped them meet their challenges.

The challenge at hand

Sky News Arabia, a prominent 24/7 pan-Arab news broadcaster, required a studio server that could provide UHD key and fill functionality. The server needed to be fully integrated into their newly built SMPTE 2110 infrastructure. It was crucial that the studio server could be controlled by a GV K-Frame using AMP/VDCP protocol. The server also had to support a wide range of media formats, including ProRes, XAVC, and DNxHD.

How clipbox delivered

Seamless control
Sky News Arabia now sees seamless integration with existing Grass Valley K-Frame control module via VDCP protocol.

ST 2110-ready
Robust ST 2110 support with NMOS for IP-based workflows.

Built-in redundancy
Sky News Arabia unlocked 24/7 reliability, driven by redundant operation.

clipbox contribution

Sky News Arabia implemented two rack-unit sized clipbox servers, each offering four playout and four recording channels, including dual key and fill outputs. The solution’s SMPTE 2110 integration, compliant with 2022-7 redundancy, PTP, and NMOS, delivers high rack density within a COTS architecture, providing a robust and future-proof playout and recording system.
